Your browser reads the file into local memory and hands it to a landmark model that was downloaded onto your device beforehand. The measuring happens there, inside the tab, using your own processor. At no point does a request carry the image.

The numbers it produces are written down, so that your result has a page you can go back to and so the optional report has something to be built from. What is saved is the scores and the ratios, under a long random link with no name, no email and no account attached. The photo and the 478 landmark points are not part of it: they stay in the tab and are gone when you close it. If you do not buy a report, that record of the numbers is deleted after 7 days.

Running the measurement locally requires the measuring code to get to you first. The landmark runtime and the model file are served from public CDNs the first time you use the tool; those providers see a request for a file from your IP address, exactly as they would for any image or font on any website. Those files come to you. Nothing about your photo goes back.

Under the free result there is an optional written report for $18.29. Choosing it is the only thing on this site that transmits a photo, and it asks first: you confirm you are 18 or over and this is your own face, and you agree to a written notice that says the following.

• What is sent. One reduced copy of the photo you scanned and the measurements taken from it. The 478 landmark points stay in your browser.
• Where it goes. To Google Gemini, which draws the styling concept and the hairstyle try-ons and checks the concept against the original, and to Anthropic's Claude, which writes the text. Both are paid APIs that do not use your photo to train models. Your email goes to Stripe for the receipt and to us so we can send you the report link.
• How long it is kept. The original copy is deleted from our database the moment the report is built. If you start a checkout and do not pay, the photo is deleted within 2 hours and the whole record within 7 days. A reduced copy of the photo, the AI images and the written report are kept privately at your report link until you ask for them to be deleted, and for no longer than 12 months.
• Who can see it. Whoever holds the report link. It is long, random and unlisted, it is never indexed, and the images behind it are served through short-lived signed addresses. Treat the link the way you would treat the photo.
• Deleting it. Write to contact@howprettyami.com from the email you paid with and the report, its images and the record are removed. A refund removes them automatically.

For the free test, nothing that identifies you: no account, no email, no sign-up. For a purchased report: your email, the report and its images as described above, the text of the notice you agreed to and a yes-or-no record that you were of age, and a salted, non-reversible token of your IP address used only to rate-limit the checkout. Our hosting provider keeps ordinary web-server request logs, as every host does.

The site runs Google Analytics, which sets cookies and counts how many people reached each page, how many started a scan and how many got a result. It is what lets us tell a broken page from an unpopular one.

What it is told about a scan is the score band, the score, how the photo was chosen and, when a scan fails, the reason it failed. It is never told anything about the face: not the photo, not the 478 landmarks, not the individual measurements. It could not be told the photo even if we wanted it to be, because the photo never leaves your browser. Any tracker blocker stops the whole thing, and nothing on this site behaves differently when it is blocked.

Measurements of facial geometry are treated as biometric data under the GDPR, Illinois BIPA, Texas CUBI and similar regimes, which attach obligations to the collection, storage and transfer of biometric identifiers.

The free test performs none of the three: the measurement is computed on your device, the numbers are displayed and discarded, and nothing is transmitted or retained. The paid report does collect and transfer a photo, which is why it collects an explicit written release first, stores that release verbatim, and deletes the original on the timetable above. Your rights of access, deletion and portability are satisfied by the report link and by the deletion address.

This site is intended for adults, and the paid report is available only to adults. Appearance-scoring tools are a poor fit for anyone still forming a relationship with their own face, which is the honest reason for the limit rather than a legal one.
